One of the small drone children, the same height as Twenty-five but similar in age to Duncan, landed beside Owen. "Have you seen Duncan?"
"The kid?" Owen said. "Can't say I have." Technically true. Right now Owen couldn't see him.
"Oh. He said he had to go to relieve himself real quick, but he hasn't come back. I don't even remember seeing him leave the throne room. I'm worried he got lost."
"Well…" The fear in this kid's voice got a grip on Owen's throat. He was looking at every sailor boy he'd ever befriended, anguished that it was the last time they'd see each other. And now he couldn't think of a way to get everyone home safely without hurting this little boy the same way. "Maybe he just got lost. I'm sure he'll turn up if—"
"Wait."
Duncan appeared in front of the railing.
